PLANNING & BOOKING
Planning your first trip as a married couple
A honeymoon carries more expectation than any other trip you’ll book, which is exactly why we hear the same questions again and again. Here’s what couples want to know before they start.
Timing & Planning
5 QUESTIONS
Nine to twelve months ahead gives us the widest choice of dates and properties, especially for peak season or a specific hotel you have your heart set on. We can still design something beautiful on shorter notice, but early planning means more options.
Both work well. Some couples want to leave straight from the reception, others prefer a short getaway right after and a longer trip a few months later once the wedding planning dust has settled. We’ll design around whichever timeline suits you.
Yes, your tickets must always match the name on your passport. Many brides choose to wait until after the honeymoon to renew their passport with their married name, which lets them book flights right away under their existing passport. We’d recommend traveling with a copy of your name change document as well, just in case you’re asked.
Yes, we’re happy to think through the whole arc with you, from where family might gather to where the two of you go once it’s just the two of you again. We can also help with destination weddings and elopements.
We’d recommend waiting to book your honeymoon until you have a definite wedding date locked in, since changes get complicated once everything is confirmed.
Budget & Style
4 QUESTIONS
There’s no standard figure, it depends entirely on length, destination, and the level of luxury you want. What matters more than the number is deciding together whether you’d rather have a shorter trip at your dream property or a longer trip that trades a little polish for more time away.
Absolutely, and it’s increasingly common. We can set up specific experiences, a candlelit dinner, a private excursion, a spa afternoon, that family members can sponsor directly as part of the trip.
Our standard policy is a 35% deposit at the time of booking, with the balance due 60 days out. If you’d prefer to make interim payments in between, that’s fine too, you can log into our payment portal and pay whenever suits you. Family members can also make payments toward the final balance as a wedding gift.
We’d encourage you to focus on which experiences will mean the most to you 20 years from now, a private sunset boat trip along the Amalfi Coast, or an incredible meal with a stunning view, for instance. It’s rare that people look back and remember their seat on the plane or the size of their room. We’re here to help you find the right balance of luxury and experience for your honeymoon.
Choosing Your Destination
4 QUESTIONS
This is one of the most common tensions we design around, and it’s rarely a real conflict. Most of our honeymoon itineraries pair an active stretch, hiking, exploring, a cooking class, with several days built purely for slowing down.
Everything is tailor-made to your preferences, but we typically see couples opt for a new experience. Our brains naturally hold onto novelty more than familiarity, which makes it a lovely way to remember your honeymoon.
We recommend moving every 3 or 4 nights to build some contrast between locations, beach, then mountains, then city, for example. It adds more novelty to the trip, and each move makes it feel like the start of a brand-new journey.
Yes, we’ll flag any seasonal weather considerations for your destination and dates, and we always recommend travel insurance for a trip this significant.
Working With WAC
3 QUESTIONS
Yes, this is one of our favorite parts of the process. A small surprise upon arrival, a quiet detail that tells you this trip was designed around you specifically.
Yes, a single travel designer stays with you from the first conversation through the trip itself, so you’re never re-explaining your preferences to someone new.
You have a direct line to your travel designer throughout the trip, not a call center. If a flight is delayed or a reservation needs to shift, we handle it in real time.
