Retired Explorers FAQs

For travelers who finally have the time, and want a trip that moves at their pace, not a tour bus schedule.

Travel built around your pace, not a schedule

For travelers who are retired or nearing it, the questions tend to center on comfort, pacing, and making sure a trip stays a pleasure from the first day to the last. Here’s what we’re asked most.

Pace & Comfort

5 QUESTIONS

How many destinations should we visit on one trip?

That largely depends on the length of your trip and what pace you like to keep. We typically recommend moving every 3 or 4 days to ensure you have plenty of time in each place.

Can a trip be designed around limited mobility?

Yes, although some locations, like the Amalfi Coast, can be challenging, and we’ll talk you through the options. We can build in private drivers, ground-floor or elevator accommodations, and guides who know how to pace a day around what’s comfortable.

Is it better to stay somewhere longer rather than move around?

We aim to reduce the fatigue of repacking and changing hotels every few nights by including fewer stops. Sometimes it’s necessary, though, when the locations are too spread out for a day trip.

Do you arrange private touring instead of group tours?

Yes, we offer either private or small group touring, depending on your personal preference.

What if my energy levels vary day to day?

We build leisure time into the itinerary to avoid burnout. We’d recommend sharing your ideal pace with your travel designer so they can plan everything perfectly for you.

Choosing Where to Go

4 QUESTIONS

Should we return to a country we love or explore somewhere new each year?

Both are wonderful reasons to travel. Many of our repeat clients do both, returning to a favorite region every few years while adding a new destination in between.

How long should a trip be at this stage of life?

Ten to fourteen nights tends to be the sweet spot for our retired travelers, long enough to properly settle in, short enough that it never starts to feel tiring.

Is safari a realistic option later in life?

Very much so. Many lodges are set up with comfort and accessibility in mind, and a private vehicle means the pace of each game drive is entirely up to you.

What’s the advantage of booking further ahead at this stage?

The best private guides and the right accommodations, the ones with the view, the quiet location, the easy access, book up early. Planning ahead gives us the best chance of securing them.

Health & Insurance

3 QUESTIONS

Is travel insurance more important for older travelers?

We recommend it for every trip, but especially so here, given the value of the itinerary and the greater likelihood of a health-related change of plan. We’re happy to point you toward policies suited to your circumstances.

What if we need to bring regular medication abroad?

Keep medications in their original prescription packaging and in your carry-on luggage. We can also flag any destination-specific pharmacy or customs considerations in advance.

What happens if a health issue changes our plans mid-trip?

Your travel designer is reachable throughout the trip and will work directly with local partners to adjust bookings, arrange care, or shift the itinerary as needed.
