FAQS / MILESTONE CELEBRATIONS

Milestone Celebrations FAQs

Birthdays, anniversaries, and reunions, for couples and groups of any size.

Marking the occasion properly

Whether it’s two people or twenty, a milestone changes how a trip should be designed. Here’s what we hear most from travelers planning around a specific occasion.

What Counts as a Milestone

4 QUESTIONS

What kinds of occasions do people typically build a trip around?

Round-number birthdays (50th, 60th, 70th), significant anniversaries, retirement, a reunion after time apart, or a vow renewal. The occasion itself is what shapes the design, not the number of people traveling.

Does a milestone trip have to involve a big group?

Not at all. Some of our most memorable milestone trips are just a couple marking an anniversary quietly, while others are twenty family members celebrating a grandparent’s 80th.

Is there a minimum or maximum group size for a milestone celebration?

No fixed range. We’ve designed everything from an intimate couple’s getaway to reunion trips of twenty or more, and the planning approach scales accordingly.

Can a milestone trip be combined with other travelers who aren’t part of the celebration?

Yes, this comes up often, a couple’s anniversary trip that overlaps with a portion of a larger family gathering, for example. We can design around exactly how much overlap you want.

Planning the Special Details

5 QUESTIONS

Can WAC arrange something special for the day itself?

Always, and it’s one of our favorite parts of the process. A private dinner, a cake arranged with the property, a small surprise coordinated with family back home, these are the details we love designing.

Do you offer a photoshoot for milestone trips?

For celebrations of six or more travelers, we can arrange a complimentary photoshoot during your stay so the occasion is documented properly, not just captured on phones.

Can you help coordinate a surprise element without the guest of honor knowing?

Yes, we do this regularly, working directly with family members or friends to keep certain details under wraps until the right moment.

Is it possible to have family join partway through a longer trip for the celebration itself?

Yes, we can design a trip where a core group travels the whole way and others join for just the milestone portion, with logistics handled so the transition feels smooth.

Can a vow renewal be arranged as part of the trip?

Yes, we can coordinate a simple, meaningful vow renewal with a property or local officiant, tailored to how public or private you’d like it to be.

Choosing Where to Go

4 QUESTIONS

How do we choose a destination for a milestone celebration?

We start with what the occasion means to you, whether that’s returning somewhere significant, or discovering somewhere entirely new together. From there we match the destination to your group’s size and style.

Is a private villa better than a hotel for a milestone celebration?

We usually recommend a hotel, since there’s a lot more flexibility. If you’re not sure on final numbers, we can add or subtract rooms as we go through the planning process. It also gives everyone a bit more independence, so the group can gather for activities together and still have alone time when needed.

What if different generations or friend groups have different destination preferences?

We start the planning process with a phone call, and recommend having as many of the decision-makers on that call as possible, so we can hear everyone’s requests. Our travel designers are familiar with hundreds of locations across Europe and Africa, and we can put together the right combination so everyone has something to look forward to.

How far in advance should we book a milestone trip tied to a specific date?

We recommend 9 to 12 months in advance, to make sure you get first pick of hotels, rooms, and guides.

Working With WAC

3 QUESTIONS

Do you handle milestone trips differently from a standard signature itinerary?

Often, yes, many milestone celebrations move toward a bespoke design so the details can be built specifically around the occasion rather than adapted from an existing itinerary.

Can you help us figure out a realistic budget for a milestone trip?

Yes, during your first trip planning call with your travel designer, they’ll be able to give you some rough estimates.

Who do we talk to about a milestone trip that also involves multiple households?

Your travel designer will be able to coordinate multiple groups traveling together. We’ll typically have contact with everyone individually, so we can make sure each traveler gets the attention they need.
