Valentine’s Day proves what we already know deep down: the best gifts aren’t things, they’re experiences. A surprise week away beats another box of chocolates every time. Whether you’re celebrating years together, planning a secret escape for your partner, or mixing romance with a little adventure, the right destination makes all the difference.

Milestone anniversaries deserve more than a reservation at the same restaurant. They deserve moments that linger. Shared laughter, quiet surprises, and experiences that feel thoughtfully designed just for the two of you. Here are four destinations where love isn’t just in the air. It’s woven into every detail.

Paris: The Classic Romantic Escape

Few cities capture romance quite like Paris. Beyond the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night, the quiet charm of cobblestone streets, and the soft hum of café life, Paris invites you to fall in love again and again. Wander hand-in-hand on a walking tour past Notre Dame, Sainte-Chapelle, and the Arc de Triomphe, taking in centuries of history at every turn.

Indulge in the city’s culinary side with a Montmartre food tour or a memorable evening aboard a luxury double decker dinner bus, where fine dining pairs perfectly with iconic views. Spend unhurried afternoons exploring the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay, or step into the grandeur of Versailles for a day that feels straight out of a fairytale. Stroll the Champs-Élysées, shopping and people-watching before surprising your partner with a private perfume-making class, a scent that becomes forever tied to this trip. For an unforgettable celebration, escape the city for a day in Champagne, where vineyard views and golden bubbles mark a milestone worth toasting.

Sardinia: Sun-Kissed Romance by the Sea

For couples drawn to sun, sea, and effortless beauty, Sardinia offers a romantic escape that feels both relaxed and deeply special. Surprise your partner with a private boat trip through the island’s archipelagos, gliding past secluded coves and impossibly clear water where time seems to slow.

On land, discover Sardinia’s flavors with a Mirto tasting, raise a glass to shared adventures, or explore scenic hiking trails that reward you with sweeping coastal views. Evenings are unhurried, spent watching the light change over the water or enjoying a quiet dinner by the sea. In Sardinia, romance lives in the balance of leisure and discovery, where every day feels easy and every moment feels intentional.

Morocco: Romance Off the Beaten Path

For couples seeking something unexpected, Morocco delivers romance through color, texture, and unforgettable sensory experiences. Explore the vibrant cities of Fes, Casablanca, and Marrakech on guided tours that reveal hidden courtyards, grand palaces, and bustling souks filled with spice and silk.

Slow things down with a traditional hammam or spa day, where ancient rituals create space to reconnect. Share hands-on moments in a Moroccan cooking class or an elegant calligraphy workshop, learning skills that turn into lasting memories. For an extraordinary touch, drift over the desert at sunrise in a hot air balloon as a sax player serenades you from the sky. Balance serenity with adventure on quad rides, camel treks, or a private safari-style day trip. Morocco transforms romance into a story that feels layered, immersive, and impossible to forget.

Sicily: Romantic Memories Across Generations

For a big anniversary, why not bring the whole family? Sicily is where romance and celebration come together, making it ideal for milestone anniversaries. Picture a private boat trip along the coast, laughter carried on the breeze as you toast to love and shared history. Journey to Mt. Etna’s vineyards for a winery visit shaped by volcanic soil and dramatic views, where each glass tells a story of resilience and passion.

Spend meaningful days exploring historic towns, whether tracing ancestral roots or simply wandering streets shaped by centuries of life. Join a market visit and cooking class that brings everyone together around the table, followed by unhurried beach days where couples steal quiet moments while the rest of the group relaxes nearby. In Sicily, romance isn’t lost on a multi-generational trip. It’s shared, celebrated, and deeply felt.

From Pyramids to Paradise: My Egyptian Adventure https://dev.wactravel.com/egypt-fam-trip-2025/ Tue, 03 Feb 2026 13:42:42 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12516

I just returned from an unbelievable trip to Egypt, and I’m still processing everything my partner and I experienced. When most people think of Egypt, they picture the Pyramids and maybe the Sphinx, but even for someone obsessed with The Mummy like myself, this journey revealed so much more about what Egypt has to offer.

This familiarization trip took us through Cairo’s bustling streets, down the Nile River on a luxurious cruise, and finally to the beach paradise of Sharm El-Sheikh on the Red Sea. We explored ancient tombs, sailed on traditional feluccas, rode quads through the desert, and ate our weight in incredible food. If Egypt’s been on your bucket list, consider this your sign to finally book that trip!

Dru and I at Kom Ombo Temple

Cairo: Where Ancient Meets Modern

We kicked off our adventure in Cairo, and the energy hit us immediately. This city is alive: honking cars weaving through traffic, the call to prayer echoing from mosques, and street vendors everywhere – it’s easy to see that this is one of the most populous cities in the world!

Our first full day took us to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid, and honestly? This became my surprising favorite of the entire trip. There’s something about trekking across the open sand and exploring ancient tombs with just your crew that makes you feel like Indiana Jones discovering these artifacts for the first time. We maneuvered through narrow passages and descended into underground chambers, all the while our incredible Egyptologist guide brought the stories to life: transforming the walls covered in symbols into vivid tales of high priests and ancient rituals.

Feeling like Indiana Jones (or perhaps Evelyn O’Connell?) while we explored ancient tombs

After Saqqara, we explored Islamic Cairo and got wonderfully lost in Khan El Khalili Bazaar – this massive, maze-like market that’s been around since the 14th century! The spices, handmade crafts, and haggling made it such a fun experience. (Although I must admit, I’m terrible at haggling.)

A traditional Egyptian meal (think Lebanese food in the U.S.) at the famous Naguib Mahfouz Cafe in Khan El Khalili

The next day brought us face-to-face with the main event: the Pyramids of Giza. I know everyone’s seen pictures, but standing there in person is completely different. The sheer size and precision are humbling.

Standing at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza

Must-Sees & Dos:

  • Visit Saqqara: Let your guide take you to lesser-known tombs on site; while everyone else tours the pyramid, you’ll have a nearly private experience that allows you to really fall back in time.
  • Get Lost in Khan El Khalili Bazaar: Let your five senses run wild with new sights, smells, and sounds around every turn – and don’t forget to try Aseer Asab, a sweet drink made from crushed sugarcane stalks.
  • Grand Egyptian Museum: Budget extra time – there’s so much more there than you can imagine!
  • Take the Camel Ride: Yes, it’s touristy. Yes, it’s awkward to stay on. Yes, it’s worth it – you’ll appreciate the photos later.

The Nile Cruise: Floating Through History

After Cairo, we flew to Aswan and began our four-day Nile cruise. We quickly fell into an easy, albeit interesting, rhythm: mornings spent ducking into ancient temples and tombs, afternoons lounging by the top-deck pool, evenings watching traditional Nubian performances after a delicious multi-course dinner.

The view from our balcony on the Nile cruise

As a lifelong Egypt-nerd, I was enthralled at the Valley of the Kings when I climbed down into King Tut’s tomb and found the “Boy King” himself right there in front of me – a meeting I never expected to have. And I can’t leave out our visit to Hatshepsut’s temple (an incredible leader and one of Egypt’s few female pharaohs!) that was stunningly carved right into the rocky cliffs.

Hatshepsut’s Temple in Luxor

But a highlight I didn’t expect? Our felucca ride at sunset. Picture this: gliding across the Nile in a traditional sailboat. The peaceful wind filling the sails, the golden light of sunset shimmering across the water, and gentle mist of the Nile sprinkling your face as you sip traditional tea and local wine. Legends say the Nile is magic, and in moments like this you feel that it must be true.

Feluccas on the Nile

Must-Sees & Dos:

  • Visit the Valley of the Kings: An integral piece of Egypt’s history – no trip is complete without it!
  • Don’t Miss Hatshepsut’s Temple: This female pharaoh has an incredible backstory that’s best experienced first hand.
  • Go Early to Beat the Heat (and Crowds!): No one likes getting up early on vacation, but it’s well worth it to adventure in milder temperatures. Then enjoy a midday nap at the pool and work on your tan!
  • Take the Felucca Ride at Sunset: Experience the true magic of the Nile.

Sharm El-Sheikh: Desert Adventures & Beach Bliss

After several days of immersive history, we flew to Sharm El-Sheikh on the Red Sea coast – what a scenery-change! Crystal-clear turquoise waters, pristine beaches, and the kind of luxury that makes you want to do absolutely nothing. We spent time lounging by the pool, snorkeling in the Red Sea (the coral reefs and tropical fish are unreal), and eating amazing fresh seafood.

View of the Red Sea, the coral reef, and a Saudi Arabian Island in the distance

Fresh fish and chicken tacos, perfectly seasoned with local spices

But we couldn’t resist one more adventure.

We booked an evening excursion that turned out to be one we’ll never forget. We rode quads through the Sinai Desert – an adrenaline rush colored by golden sand dunes from the fading daylight. We ended up at a traditional Bedouin village for a dinner under the stars: grilled meats, fresh bread, aromatic rice, and sweet tea. After dinner, our hosts taught us about constellations and desert navigation while we inspected far-off planets through perfectly-placed telescopes.

The few stars our cameras could capture above the Bedouin village where we enjoyed our dinner

Must-Sees & Dos:

  • Snorkel the Red Sea: Ras Mohammed National Park has some of the most incredible snorkeling in the world. Most resorts even offer diving certifications!
  • Go Stargazing: The desert night sky will take your breath away. You’ll never see so many stars at once.
  • Make Time to Relax: You’ve been active and busy this whole trip! Now’s the time to unwind: relax on the beach, have a drink by the pool, and go enjoy some time in the spa.

Reflections on Egypt

Looking back on our time in Egypt, what stays with me most isn’t just the iconic sites (though they’re absolutely worth the hype). It’s the moments in between:

Our guides who didn’t just recite facts but brought history to life with genuine passion.

Aswan

Beautiful walkways through an oasis in Aswan

Standing in ancient tombs and feeling that sense of recognition: these were real people with hopes and dreams just like ours.

Experiencing this wonderfully wild variety of adventures with my favorite person – from racing quads through the midnight desert, to the quiet strolls through an Aswan oasis – and knowing we’ll continue to reminisce about this journey for the rest of our lives.

If Egypt’s been calling your name, don’t wait. Whether you’re dreaming of connecting with the ancient past or connecting with your friends and family, WAC Travel can help design your perfect Egyptian adventure. Let us handle the details while you focus on creating memories that’ll last as long as the pyramids.

Travel Insurance 101: What It Is, Why It Matters, and How It Protects Your Trip https://dev.wactravel.com/travel-insurance/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 11:18:04 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12509

Planning a trip is exciting, choosing destinations, imagining meals, and picturing those moments you’ve been dreaming about for months (or years). But before you finalize flights and start counting down the days, there’s one important piece of planning that often raises questions: travel insurance.

This guide breaks down Travel Insurance 101 in a clear, approachable way. We’ll cover what it is, why travelers choose it, and how it helps protect both your investment and your peace of mind while traveling.

What Is Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance is a policy designed to protect your trip and your finances if something unexpected happens before or during your travels. It can help cover certain non-refundable costs and provide support if plans change due to illness of you or a family member, delays, emergencies, or other covered situations.

Think of it as a safety net. Not something you hope to use, but something that allows you to travel with confidence, knowing you’re protected if life doesn’t go exactly as planned.

Travel insurance offers coverage options tailored specifically to international travel, helping protect you when you’re far from home.

Why Get Travel Insurance?

Travel is an investment of money, time, and anticipation. Your initial deposit is non-refundable, and as your departure date approaches, the remaining balance becomes fully non-refundable as well. Travel insurance helps protect that investment when circumstances beyond your control arise.

Many travelers also choose insurance for peace of mind. Knowing you have support if a medical issue, trip interruption, or unexpected delay occurs allows you to focus on enjoying the experience instead of worrying about what could go wrong.

For international travel especially, travel insurance is a practical layer of protection that helps you feel secure far from home.

What Are the Benefits of Travel Insurance?

The biggest benefit of travel insurance is reassurance. When plans change or the unexpected happens, you’re not navigating it alone.

Travel insurance can help:

  • Protect non-refundable trip costs
  • Reduce out-of-pocket expenses during disruptions
  • Provide assistance during emergencies
  • Offer support while traveling abroad

Rather than scrambling for solutions, travelers with insurance often have access to resources, guidance, and financial protection when they need it most.

What Does Travel Insurance Cover?

Coverage varies by policy, but most comprehensive travel insurance plans include protection for several common scenarios travelers may face.

Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption
If you need to cancel your trip before departure or cut it short due to a covered reason, travel insurance may reimburse eligible prepaid, non-refundable expenses.

Medical Coverage While Traveling
Many plans include emergency medical and evacuation coverage, which can be especially important when traveling internationally, where your regular health insurance may not apply.

Travel Delays & Missed Connections
Coverage may help offset additional costs caused by flight delays, missed connections, or extended layovers.

Lost, Delayed, or Damaged Baggage
If luggage is lost or delayed, travel insurance can help cover essential purchases or replacement costs.

Emergency Assistance Services
Most policies include 24/7 assistance, offering help with medical referrals, coordination during emergencies, and travel support when you need it most.

It’s important to review each policy carefully so you understand what’s covered and what isn’t before your trip.

Is Travel Insurance Worth It?

For many travelers, yes. While travel insurance doesn’t prevent disruptions, it provides protection, flexibility, and peace of mind when they occur.

Whether you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime international trip, a multi-city itinerary, or a carefully timed vacation, insurance helps ensure that unexpected changes don’t derail your plans or your finances.

A Meaningful Way to Celebrate Milestone Birthdays: Group Travel in Europe https://dev.wactravel.com/milestone-birthdays/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 11:26:22 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12500

Do you have a big birthday coming up? The start of the year is the perfect time to step back, look ahead, and intentionally plan how you want to celebrate. Instead of letting another milestone quietly pass, January offers the opportunity to map out your travel plans and rally your friends or family for an unforgettable group getaway to mark the occasion.

Why celebrate solo when you can bring the whole crew? Group birthday trips turn a milestone into a shared adventure. Think inside jokes unfolding in foreign cities, three generations clinking glasses at sunset, and stories you will still be retelling years from now. With thoughtful planning, bringing together grandparents, siblings, friends, and even toddlers becomes part of the joy, not the stress. Europe is the perfect playground for it, offering a balance of culture, relaxation, and experiences that truly appeal to everyone.

Milestone birthdays like turning 50, 60, or 65 are about more than the number. They are a chance to pause, reflect, and celebrate the life you have built with the people who matter most. Instead of another dinner reservation or party at home, multi-generational and group birthday travel creates space to slow down, reconnect, and make memories that feel lasting and meaningful.

Portugal: Relaxed, Welcoming, and Perfect for Group Celebrations

Portugal feels effortlessly celebratory, warm, welcoming, and ideal for bringing everyone together. Days unfold at a relaxed pace in Lisbon, where wandering historic neighborhoods, tasting local specialties on a walking food tour, and even trying your hand at a traditional tile-painting class create shared moments that feel both meaningful and fun across generations. A day trip to Sintra adds a fairytale touch, while fresh seafood and unhurried evenings invite everyone to slow down and savor time together.

Further north, Porto offers a different rhythm that works beautifully for a group celebration. Walking along the riverfront, enjoying a food tour, and cruising the Douro River allow the experience to feel special without being rushed. A port wine tasting adds a celebratory note for milestone birthdays, while time along the Algarve’s golden coast balances the trip with space to relax, reconnect, and simply enjoy the moment. Portugal has a way of making milestone birthdays feel joyful, easy, and deeply shared.

Spain: Culture, Energy, and Celebratory Spirit

Spain is a destination that knows how to celebrate, lively yet deeply rooted in tradition, making it a natural fit for a milestone birthday shared with family or friends. In Madrid, days might include wandering historic streets on a guided walking tour, stepping inside the Prado to appreciate art that spans generations, and lingering over a tapas tour where conversation flows as easily as the wine. The beauty of Spain for group travel is its balance, offering cultural depth without feeling heavy and energy without feeling rushed.

Further south, Seville adds soul and rhythm to the celebration. A flamenco dinner becomes more than a performance, it is an emotional experience that resonates across ages. Hands-on moments like a paella cooking class bring everyone together around the table, while time in Barcelona offers architectural wonder through the Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, and the Gothic Quarter. Spain turns a milestone birthday into something immersive and joyful, where laughter, flavor, and shared discovery naturally bring the group closer.

Northern Italy: A Milestone Birthday Trip with Something for Everyone

Northern Italy offers a beautiful blend of elegance, adventure, and indulgence, making it an exceptional choice for a milestone birthday that brings multiple generations together. From gentle hikes in the Dolomites to lakeside moments around Lake Garda, the region invites travelers to slow down and savor time together in settings that feel both grand and grounding. Verona adds a romantic pause, while wine tastings create natural moments of connection that feel celebratory without being overdone.

What makes Northern Italy especially memorable for group birthday travel is its ability to meet everyone where they are. Food lovers can immerse themselves in Bologna through hands-on cooking classes and food tours, while Milan delivers a polished contrast with guided walks past the Duomo, opportunities to see The Last Supper, and time to enjoy its world-renowned shopping scene. For those drawn to high-adrenaline experiences, a visit to the Ferrari museum or even an F1 race adds an unforgettable thrill. Northern Italy transforms a milestone birthday into a shared journey, balancing culture, flavor, style, and celebration in a way few destinations can.

Plan a Group Birthday Trip That Truly Matters

Milestone birthdays are not meant to be rushed or postponed for someday. They are moments to gather the people who matter most and celebrate life in a way that feels intentional and meaningful. With the right destination and thoughtful planning, group birthday travel becomes less about logistics and more about connection, ease, and shared joy.

If this feels like the year to turn a milestone into a memory, WAC Travel is here to guide the process, helping you design a celebration that feels effortless, personal, and truly unforgettable.

Before You Go: Must-Know Tips for Traveling to Greece https://dev.wactravel.com/tips-before-greece/ Mon, 12 Jan 2026 11:33:47 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12493

Greece is one of those destinations that lingers in your imagination long before you arrive—and stays with you long after you return home. With sun-washed islands, ancient ruins, crystal-clear waters, and famously warm hospitality, Greece feels both timeless and deeply alive. Whether you’re wandering through the echoes of ancient civilization, lingering over a seaside meal, or watching the sun sink into the Aegean, every experience feels rich with meaning.

It’s a destination that rewards curiosity and thoughtful planning—where choosing the right islands, timing your visit well, and balancing iconic sights with quieter moments can transform a wonderful trip into an unforgettable one. Here’s what to know before you go to Greece.

Why Go

With over 3,400 years of recorded history, Greece’s past isn’t something you read about—it’s something you walk through. From the Acropolis rising above Athens to the sacred site of Delphi, the monasteries of Meteora perched atop dramatic rock formations, and Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, history here feels powerful and tangible.

Constantinos Kollias | Unsplash

Beyond its ancient sites, Greece is incredibly diverse in its landscapes. Rugged mountains, fertile valleys, pine-covered hills, and an endless coastline give way to some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. The islands each offer their own rhythm and personality—whether it’s the energy of Mykonos, the laid-back charm of Naxos, the cultural depth and outdoor adventures of Crete, or the striking volcanic scenery and romantic sunsets of Santorini.

Food in Greece is deeply tied to place and tradition, and meals are meant to be shared and savored. Fresh seafood pulled straight from the sea, simple vegetables elevated with olive oil and herbs, grilled octopus enjoyed harborside, or a comforting plate of moussaka in a local taverna—Greek cuisine feels honest, generous, and full of soul. Add a glass of local wine and a sunset over the Aegean, and it’s easy to understand why Greece captures hearts so completely.

When to Go

Greece enjoys wonderful weather for much of the year, with mild winters and long stretches of sunshine. Athens is a year-round destination, while most islands operate seasonally from April through October, when ferry routes and hotels are fully up and running.

For most travelers, the best time to visit is mid-April through June or September through mid-October. During these months, the weather is warm but comfortable, the crowds are thinner, and prices tend to be more reasonable. It’s ideal for sightseeing, island hopping, hiking, and beach time without the intensity of peak summer.

© Justin Black | Dreamstime.com

July and August are the hottest and busiest months, with temperatures sometimes climbing toward 100 degrees Fahrenheit. These months bring a lively energy—especially to islands like Mykonos and Santorini—but also larger crowds and higher prices.

While Greece isn’t known for snow travel in the same way as Italy, the winter months offer a quieter, more local experience, particularly on the mainland. Winter is a lovely time to explore Athens without crowds, enjoy cozy tavernas, and experience Greek culture at a slower, more authentic pace.

What to Know

Understanding a few local details ahead of time can make your Greece trip feel seamless and relaxed.

  • Visa, Currency & Language: No visa is required for most travelers. Greece uses the Euro, and the official language is Greek. English is widely spoken, and communication is easy throughout most of the country.
  • Getting Around: Domestic flights are convenient for traveling between the mainland and islands, while high-speed ferries offer scenic and efficient island-hopping. For exploring mainland Greece or larger islands like Crete, renting a car or hiring a private driver/guide is ideal.
  • Costs: Greece is generally affordable, especially on the mainland and lesser-known islands. Santorini and Mykonos tend to be the most expensive.
  • Family Travel Notes: Many hotels on Santorini don’t allow children under 13 due to cliffside construction, and the island can be challenging for strollers or travelers with mobility concerns.
  • Culture & Hospitality: Greeks are famously warm and welcoming. Whether or not there’s a shared language, you can expect kindness, generosity, and a genuine sense of hospitality wherever you go.

Planning Your Greece Trip

If Greece has been living in your saved posts or travel daydreams, now is the time to turn inspiration into experience. Stop saving it for “someday” and start making memories—the kind you’ll talk about for years, relive through photos, and wish you could return to again and again.

At WAC Travel, we help you experience Greece beyond the highlight reel. From choosing the right islands to coordinating every detail along the way, we make travel feel seamless so you can focus on what matters most: being there, soaking it all in, and creating moments that last a lifetime.

Top Travel Destinations to Visit in 2026 https://dev.wactravel.com/trending-2026-destinations/ Mon, 05 Jan 2026 11:42:54 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12484

If you’ve caught yourself saving destination reels, bookmarking hotels, or casually saying “we should really go there someday,” consider this your sign. As travelers look ahead to 2026, a handful of destinations are standing out — not just because they’re beautiful (they are), but because they’re offering something special right now. Whether it’s a pop-culture moment, a major global event, or a destination coming into its own, these are the places inspiring some very serious travel daydreams.

Côte d’Azur, France

The Côte d’Azur has always had a certain effortless glamour — the kind that doesn’t need to try too hard. But with The White Lotus filming the upcoming season here, the French Riviera is about to have a full-on renaissance moment. Expect renewed buzz around iconic destinations like Nice, Cannes, and Monaco, alongside quieter favorites like Antibes and Èze. It’s a place that feels both cinematic and timeless, where the pace slows just enough for you to truly savor it.

Spend your days driving the coastal roads with the windows down, lingering over long seaside lunches, and hopping between colorful markets and elegant beach clubs. Wander medieval hill towns for panoramic views, explore museums dedicated to artists like Matisse and Chagall, and end the day with aperitifs overlooking the Mediterranean as the sky turns pink. This is classic European summer travel at its most polished.

Croatia

Croatia continues to climb the list of must-visit destinations — and for good reason. Its Adriatic coastline is stunning, but what really sets Croatia apart is how much variety you get in one trip: historic cities, sleepy islands, vineyards, national parks, and some of the clearest water in Europe. By 2026, travelers are looking beyond the headline cities and embracing a more layered, slower exploration of the country.

Days here are made for island hopping by boat, swimming straight off stone docks, and strolling old towns as the sun sets. You might tour Roman ruins in Split in the morning, enjoy a truffle-filled lunch in Istria, and end the afternoon with a wine tasting overlooking the sea on Hvar, as the sun dips behind the Pakleni Islands. It’s relaxed, beautiful, and effortlessly memorable — the kind of trip where every day feels unplanned in the best way.

Seville, Spain

Seville is one of those places that quietly steals your heart. As travelers look for destinations with deep culture and fewer crowds, this Andalusian gem is stepping into the spotlight. Seville feels rich and romantic without being overwhelming — a city where history, music, and daily life are beautifully intertwined.

You’ll wander through the intricate halls of the Real Alcázar, get lost in the narrow streets of Santa Cruz, and pause often for churros, tapas, and local wine. Evenings are made for flamenco performances in intimate settings and late dinners on lively plazas. Seville invites you to slow down, stay out late, and truly settle into the rhythm of southern Spain.

The Dolomites, Italy

With the 2026 Winter Olympics on the horizon, the Dolomites are becoming one of Europe’s most talked-about mountain destinations — and once you see them, it’s easy to understand why. These dramatic limestone peaks rise sharply from alpine meadows, creating scenery that feels almost unreal. What makes the Dolomites special is the blend of outdoor adventure and refined Italian hospitality.

In winter, it’s a dream for skiing and snowshoeing, with cozy mountain lodges and exceptional food waiting at the end of the day. In warmer months, the region transforms into a paradise for hiking, cycling, and lake hopping, with trails that offer jaw-dropping views at every turn. Whether you’re staying in a chic alpine hotel or a family-run rifugio, the Dolomites feel both invigorating and indulgent.

Trends come and go, but the trips that stay with you are the ones that turn into stories — the moments you laugh about years later, the photos that instantly take you back, the places that become part of your personal timeline. These 2026 destinations are more than just “up next”; they’re opportunities to experience something truly memorable. At WAC Travel, we specialize in turning ideas into journeys that feel seamless, thoughtful, and deeply personal. Before You Go: Must-Know Tips for Traveling to Italy https://dev.wactravel.com/tips-before-italy/ Mon, 29 Dec 2025 12:23:57 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12477

Italy is one of those destinations that lives in your imagination long before you ever arrive. From sun-drenched piazzas and vineyard-covered hills to dramatic coastlines, alpine peaks, and cities layered with centuries of history, Italy is endlessly captivating. Whether you’re savoring a slow meal in a family-run trattoria, standing beneath world-famous works of art, or wandering a quiet village where life hasn’t changed much in generations, Italy has a way of making every moment feel meaningful.

It’s a country that rewards curiosity and thoughtful planning—where knowing when to go, where to linger, and how to move between places can transform a great trip into an unforgettable one. Here’s what to know before you go to Italy.

Why Go

With more UNESCO World Heritage Sites than any other country, Italy offers an unmatched depth of history and artistry. Iconic landmarks like the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Pompeii bring the ancient world to life, while Florence stands as the heart of the Renaissance. Art lovers can admire Michelangelo’s David, explore the Uffizi’s extraordinary collection, or look up at the Sistine Chapel ceiling—moments that are just as powerful in person as you imagine they’ll be.

Italy’s landscapes are just as compelling. Rolling Tuscan hills, vineyard-covered countryside, dramatic coastal cliffs, and sparkling lakes offer endless variety. But many travelers are surprised to learn that Italy is also a fantastic mountain destination. The Italian Alps and Dolomites are breathtaking year-round—perfect for skiing, snowshoeing, and cozy alpine stays in winter, and hiking, biking, and scenic drives in the warmer months. It’s this diversity that makes Italy feel like several trips in one.

Then there’s the food and wine—simple, regional, and deeply tied to place. Each region tells its story through its cuisine, whether that’s cacio e pepe in Rome, Florentine steak in Tuscany, fresh seafood along the coast, or robust mountain dishes in the north. Pair it all with world-class wines like Chianti, Barolo, or Prosecco, and meals become memories you’ll talk about long after you’re home.

When to Go

One of the beautiful things about Italy is that there’s truly no bad time to visit—it really depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for. Cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice are wonderful year-round, while many coastal destinations and smaller towns, including the Amalfi Coast and parts of Tuscany, operate seasonally from about March through November.

For most travelers, we recommend visiting during shoulder season, typically April through May or September. These months offer that sweet spot of pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and a more relaxed pace. It’s warm enough to enjoy outdoor dining, sightseeing, and even swimming if you’re headed to the coast or islands, but without the intensity of peak summer.

July and August are the busiest months, bringing higher temperatures and larger crowds, especially in major cities and along the coast. August is also when many Italians take their own vacations, so you may find some local shops and restaurants closed, particularly in cities.

Fall is particularly special for food and wine lovers. Vineyards are alive with harvest, landscapes glow with warm autumn colors, and meals feel deeply seasonal and comforting. Just note that some wineries may close briefly during harvest, which is something we always factor into thoughtful trip planning.

Winter is an often-overlooked but a wonderful time to visit Italy, especially if you’re drawn to mountain scenery and snow activities. From December through March, the Italian Alps and Dolomites transform into a winter playground, offering excellent skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and cozy alpine villages with roaring fires and hearty regional cuisine. Winter can also be a lovely time to visit cities, with fewer crowds, festive holiday markets, and a slower, more intimate feel.

What to Know

Italy is easy to navigate once you understand a few local rhythms—and knowing these details ahead of time can make your trip feel effortless rather than overwhelming.

  • Currency & Language: Italy uses the Euro, and the official language is Italian. No visa is required for most travelers. In tourist areas, English is widely spoken, but learning a few basic Italian phrases goes a long way and is always appreciated.
  • Getting Around: Trains are reliable, affordable, and a fantastic way to travel between cities. For exploring the countryside—places like Tuscany or Puglia—a rental car offers much more flexibility. Italians drive on the right side of the road, and we recommend obtaining an international driver’s license if you plan to rent a car.
  • Driving Tips: Driving in major cities or along the Amalfi Coast is generally not recommended due to traffic and narrow roads. Trust us—this is one area where planning transportation in advance makes all the difference.
  • Dining Culture: Italian dining hours are more structured than in the U.S. Restaurants typically open for lunch between noon and 2 p.m., then close until reopening for dinner around 7 or 8 p.m. Bars (which function more like cafes) are open throughout the day and are family-friendly places to grab a drink, snack, or light meal.
  • Coffee Etiquette: Coffee is cheaper when enjoyed standing at the bar (al banco) rather than sitting down, especially in touristy areas where table service can cost several times more.
  • Museums & Planning: Some museums close on Mondays, which can impact shorter stays. A thoughtfully planned itinerary ensures you don’t miss the experiences that matter most to you.

Holiday Traditions Across Europe: A Festive Journey Around the World https://dev.wactravel.com/european-holiday-traditions/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 11:23:48 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12463

There’s something magical about the holiday season—twinkling lights, comforting food, and those little traditions that make each place feel like its own winter storybook. And there’s just something especially special about travel this time of year, when destinations feel extra cozy and full of celebration. So grab something warm and settle in as we take a festive trip across Europe to explore some of our favorite holiday traditions.

The Netherlands – Sinterklaas Arrives by Boat

The Dutch holiday season begins when Sinterklaas arrives in mid-November—traditionally by steamboat—kicking off weeks of festivities leading up to December 5th. Children leave out shoes for small treats, families exchange humorous poem-wrapped gifts, and bakeries fill up with favorites like pepernoten and speculaas. It’s playful, cozy, and full of charm.

Germany – Christmas Markets & Mulled Wine Magic

If you’ve ever wandered through a German Christmas market, you know the feeling—it’s pure holiday enchantment. From mid-November to Christmas Eve, wooden stalls glow with handcrafted ornaments, sizzling sausages, roasted almonds, and mugs of warm Glühwein. It’s festive, charming, and hands down one of Europe’s most iconic holiday traditions.

Sweden – Saint Lucy’s Day

On December 13th, Swedes celebrate Saint Lucy’s Day, one of the most beautiful Scandinavian traditions. Candlelit processions led by a girl dressed as Lucia fill towns with soft singing, and families gather for saffron-scented lussekatter (sweet buns) and warm drinks. It’s peaceful, glowing, and a gentle reminder that light always returns during the darkest time of year.

Italy – The Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve

In Italy, especially throughout the south, Christmas Eve centers around La Vigilia, a beloved seafood feast before midnight mass. Families gather for dishes like baccalà, fried calamari, clams, and mussels—recipes passed down through generations. It’s warm, lively, and one of the coziest ways to experience Italian holiday culture.

England – Boxing Day & Classic Christmas Treats

The UK celebrates Boxing Day on December 26th—think country walks, cozy pubs, leftovers, football matches, and an overall “keep the holiday going” vibe. But one of the sweetest traditions lasts all month long: mince pies with brandy butter and endless cups of tea, whether entertaining friends or enjoying a quiet moment by the tree. It’s simple, nostalgic, and deeply British in the best way.

Austria – Silent Night, Alpine Charm & the Mischief of Krampus

Austria transforms into a snow-dusted fairytale each December, filled with candlelit Advent markets and cozy cafés serving seasonal pastries. It’s also the birthplace of “Silent Night,” first performed in Oberndorf in 1818. But the season has a mischievous side too: meet Krampus, the horned creature who parades through towns during early December. Krampuslauf events bring costumes, folklore, and a uniquely Austrian twist to the holidays.

Spain – Eating 12 Grapes for Good Luck

Spain rings in the New Year with one of the most fun (and slightly chaotic) traditions: eating 12 grapes, one for each of the final 12 seconds of the year. Some even take it up a level by doing it under the table for extra luck. It’s a lighthearted and joyful way to start the year, surrounded by family, laughter, and a little suspense.

Looking Back at the Journeys You Took With Us in 2025 https://dev.wactravel.com/2025-travel-recap/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 11:04:38 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12456

There’s something special about looking back at a year of travel — the moments you didn’t fully appreciate until you were home again, scrolling through photos, remembering how the light hit the rooftops in Florence or how the air smelled just before the first call to prayer in Marrakech. We couldn’t resist reminiscing on some of the unforgettable journeys you took with us this year.

In 2025, more than 800 travelers packed their bags and trusted our team to help bring their dream trips to life! Together, you explored Europe and Africa in ways that were anything but ordinary. Collectively, you flew over 16 million miles — enough to circle the globe more than 600 times! And each one of those miles carried a story.

You fell hard for the classics this year. Italy topped the list, with travelers sipping espresso in Rome’s hidden courtyards, sailing the pastel shores of the Amalfi Coast, and wandering through vineyards where time seems to slow down. France followed closely behind — from sun-drenched Provençal markets to evenings in Paris where a simple walk along the Seine somehow felt cinematic.

Greece captured hearts with its mix of mythology and modern island life. Many of you chased sunsets in Santorini, found serenity in Paros, or learned the true joy of a long, leisurely taverna lunch. Spain welcomed travelers with tapas crawls in Barcelona, Moorish palaces in Andalucía, and the kind of late-night energy that makes you feel instantly alive. And in Portugal, you discovered the warmth of the people matched only by the warmth of a fresh pastel de nata straight from the oven.

Across the Mediterranean and down into Africa, your trips were packed with connection. Some of you woke before sunrise for your first game drive in Kenya, others stood in awe before the ancient wonders of Egypt, and many felt the magic of Morocco through its colors, its cuisine, and its stories.

While the destinations were incredible, what made your travels unforgettable were the personal moments you shared with us — the couple’s trips that brought you closer, the family adventures that became core memories, the mother-daughter getaways, the “finally taking that dream trip” celebrations, and the spontaneous detours that became trip highlights.

Looking back at these journeys always reminds us why we do what we do: we’re not just here to plan trips, but to help you create memories that stay with you long after your suitcase is unpacked.

Thank you for an incredible year — we can’t wait to see where you’ll go next.

From Meetings to Mythology: My Work Adventure in Greece https://dev.wactravel.com/greece-fam-trip-2025/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 12:43:27 +0000 https://wactravel.com/?p=12443

When people think of Greece, the mind usually jumps straight to Santorini’s whitewashed cliffs or the cosmopolitan energy of Mykonos. While these islands are iconic—and absolutely deserving of every traveler’s bucket list—this work trip allowed me to uncover an entirely different side of Greece. This journey featured the country’s largest island, Crete, and I have to say… it may now be my favorite destination to date.

This familiarization trip gave me a glimpse of a lesser-known, deeply authentic Greece. I met incredible vendors who dedicate themselves year-round to creating unique, immersive experiences for our clients—exactly why we do fam trips. There’s nothing like experiencing the magic firsthand and seeing what our partners can offer.

My ten days in Greece were unforgettable—full of history, relationship-building, and farm-to-table cuisine that Cretans take immense pride in. It showed me just how much more Greece has to offer beyond the typical island-hopping itinerary. My friend and I had already visited Mykonos and Santorini, but this trip? This one we’ll be talking about for years.

My friend, Shirrie, and I on our Acropolis Tour

Athens: Architecture, Rooftops & Slow Weekend Mornings

As we touched down in Athens, we learned that nearly half of Greece’s population calls this vibrant city home. Athens is buzzing—full of chic rooftop restaurants, rich history on every corner, and unbeatable sunset views of the Acropolis. It made for the perfect arrival city, complete with a rooftop dinner to kick off the adventure.

During the weekend mornings, streets fill with locals savoring slow moments over cappuccino freddos and quiet conversations. Natalia, our guide shared these cultural details as we made our way through the lively streets toward the Acropolis on our first full day. If you’re someone like me—who loves to shop, explore, and find the best local spots—your guide will happily point you toward the city’s hidden gems.

Climbing the steps to the Acropolis, you’re instantly hit with awe. The sheer scale, the marble, the craftsmanship—it’s impossible not to wonder how on earth they built this masterpiece. Fortunately, our guide answered every question and even brought models to help explain the construction. We left feeling both humbled and inspired.

And of course, we ended the day with shopping. Spoiler Alert: both my friend and I had to buy an extra carry-on so we wouldn’t be overweight for our flight home. Oops.

Heraklion: Myths & Legends

After a short weekend in Athens, we flew to Crete and arrived in the port city of Heraklion. Here, I experienced what might be the best tour of my entire life at the archaeological site of Knossos.

While you can visit on your own, I highly recommend booking a professional guide—especially if you’re fascinated by mythology. Knossos is the birthplace of Zeus and the foundation of countless stories involving the Greek gods. With a guide, the ruins come alive through myth, history, and little-known details that decode the past in the most captivating way.

This was, without question, the highlight of my entire trip.

Elounda: Quiet Beaches & Seafood Nights

As we drove east toward Elounda, the scenery shifted to stunning beaches and turquoise waters. This area is ideal for travelers seeking a quiet coastal escape with a slower pace than Athens or Heraklion.

Each evening, we enjoyed the freshest seafood along Elounda’s serene coastline. After busy days exploring, this peaceful interlude was exactly what we needed before our final stop.

Chania: Mountains, Farm-to-Table Meals & Shopping Heaven

After a scenic (and not-so-short) drive to Chania, we made a few stops along the way to sample Cretan pastries and get a behind-the-scenes look at olive oil production. Crete produces a huge portion of Greece’s olive oil, and seeing the process from start to finish gave me a whole new appreciation for it.

As we climbed the western mountains, the landscape opened up to breathtaking coastal views. Chania greeted us with Venetian-style architecture, ancient walls, and a picturesque harbor.

Chania is incredibly diverse—everyday brings something entirely new.

One day, we headed into the mountains to learn how to cook like a local Cretan. Welcomed into a traditional family home surrounded by farmland, we cooked alongside a mother who had perfected her craft through decades of experience (and very precise “by eye” measurements). The meal we created was easily one of the freshest and most memorable I’ve ever tasted!

Our “Farm to Table” Cooking Class

Another day, we wandered the charming city center—truly a European maze of winding streets, boutique shops, and tapas-style Greek restaurants. Earlier in the trip we’d been advised, “Get lost. It’s the only way to truly experience Chania.” They were absolutely right!

Be sure to leave room in your suitcase—Chania’s leather goods are unmatched. Olive oil, raki, handmade crafts… it’s a souvenir heaven.

And beyond the city, Chania also offers stunning beaches and unforgettable hikes, each with scenery that feels almost unreal. This destination left me wanting more.

Closing Thoughts

After visiting Crete, speaking with our vendors, and hearing stories from locals, I realized I only experienced a small fraction of what this phenomenal island offers. Crete is an underrated destination I wish more people knew about—because they are truly missing out.

This is an island where you’re not limited to one vacation “style.” Adventure, history, beaches, luxury resorts, food experiences, cultural immersion—Crete has it all.

I hope this inspires you to rethink what your next Greece trip could look like. Maybe it’s time to step off the typical island-hopping path and instead immerse yourself in a single destination—one that lets you slow down, connect, and truly experience everything Greece has to offer.
